About the event

This session is run in Partnership with the Lions Nurses Scholarship Foundation and is designed to help nurses who are writing applications and abstracts for a particular outcome. From understanding what a particular piece of writing requires, tips and tricks, and understanding the different tones the presenters will give advice on how to best position your writing to achieve the outcomes you seek. A live Q&A will allow attendees to interact with the panel

  • Increased confidence and capability in preparing and submitting high-quality abstracts for conferences and journals
  • Practical writing strategies and techniques to enhance clarity, impact, and effectiveness across a range of professional writing contexts

 

About the speakers 

Adjunct Professor Zachary Byfield. RN, BN, MN, MPhil, MBA, MACN, FHEA, DPS

Zach (he/they) is a registered nurse with a passion for quality nursing education. Zach’s current role at ACN is as the National Director of Nursing Education and Adjunct Professor of Nursing, overseeing the Education Division and being the Responsible Executive for ACNs work with the National Nursing Archives of Australia, and Collegian: The Australian Journal of Nursing Practice, Scholarship and Research. In addition to a strong interest in evidence-based practice and teaching, Zach is an editor/contributor for nursing texts in both higher education and vocational education and sits on the board of several health-related organisations as well as holding a ministerial appointment as the Deputy President of Nursing and Midwifery Council of NSW.

 

Frances Rice MACN – ACN Chief Nursing Officer

Frances Rice is the inaugural Chief Nursing Officer at the Australian College of Nursing. She brings extensive experience in nursing leadership, health policy and regulation. In her previous role as Senior Nursing Advisor in the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, Frances received two Secretary’s awards for her work on nursing and midwifery policy. Her work in the Department included the removal of collaborative arrangements for nurse practitioners and endorsed midwives; the development and publication of the Nurse Practitioner Workforce Plan; and the development of the National Nursing Workforce Strategy.

 

Professor Lisa Whitehead FACN 

Lisa’s research experience over the last 30 years has centred on improving health outcomes for people living with chronic conditions, the development and implementation of self-management interventions, and working with families to support the management of chronic conditions. Conducting research in real-world settings underpin all of her research activities, with the aim of implementing enduring evidence-based change in practice.

A registered nurse and psychologist, Lisa brings her background in nursing, psychology and medical sociology to her research program which include qualitative studies, clinical trials and practice change through implementation science.

Lisa is the Editor in Chief of Collegian, the official journal of the Australian College of Nursing and is the founder and director of the JBI Centre for Evidence Informed Nursing and Midwifery.
