This session, hosted by the History Faculty Leadership Team, will explore why nurses should proactively engage with various forms of media and identify the most effective platforms for different messages. It will offer advice on key principles for media engagement and provide useful tips for working with different media formats

About the speaker

Professor Emerita Mary Chiarella - Professor Emerita - Sydney Nursing School

Professor Mary Chiarella is Professor Emerita with the Sydney Nursing School, Faculty of Medicine and Health and part-time Senior Policy Officer with ACMHN. She is an internationally renowned nurse leader with a distinguished career in nursing. She has qualifications in Nursing, Midwifery and Law. She established the world's first professional doctorate in midwifery at UTS. Professor Chiarella was invited to the WHO Nursing and Midwifery Directorate, Geneva, to develop a compendium of nurse-led Primary Health Care models. She is currently part of the oversight group to develop a new definition of nursing and the nurse for the ICN and is a member of the project group to explore pan-Pacific regulation legislation for the WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing and Midwifery. She is currently a member of the Health Ethics Advisory Council for the NSW Ministry of Health and a Board member of Hand in Hand Peer Support. She is Deputy Chair of Northern Sydney Local Health District Board and chairs the Health Care Quality Committee for the District.
