About the event
The Nursing Regulation Faculty invites you to join the discussion about the regulatory considerations of social media use by nurses and midwives. The Faculty will be joined by Chair of the Advanced Practice Faculty, Jo Mapes FACN, and will discuss real cases of nurses caught in the fire of social media.
Key Learning Objectives
- Locate the relevant codes, standards and guidelines that regulate social media use for nurses and midwives
- Identify social media content that cannot be posted by nurses and midwives
- Discuss possible regulatory outcomes for nurses and midwives who post contentious material on social media
Speakers
Joanne Mapes FACN - Deputy Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery - Western Health & Chair - ACN Advanced Practice Faculty
Jo is a Fellow of the Australian College of Nursing, and a practitioner member on the Victorian Board of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. She has extensive experience as a nursing leader and has worked in both public and private health sectors both in Australia and overseas. Her experience extends to the development and implementation of strategic change with a demonstrated capacity to lead and develop people in delivering better outcomes across systems, work units, teams and consumers.
Jo was a Nurse Practitioner in primary care in the NHS prior to emigrating to Australia in 2007. Jo also has a strong background in nursing workforce, a strong commitment to professional Nursing and Midwifery standards, and the provision of quality nursing/midwifery care to improve patient experiences and outcomes.
Jo has held a number of senior leadership roles including secondments to the Victorian Department of Health to lead the statewide Hospital in the Home review, then more recently to develop a nursing advanced practice capability framework and to lead the central workforce deployment strategy for the state-wide COVID-19 response.
