About the speakers 

 

Marie Slater - Executive Director of Nursing Services, Child and Adolescent Health Services (CAHS)

Marie Slater is currently the Executive Director of Nursing Services for the Child and Adolescence Health Service in  Perth WA. In this role she is based at the Perth Children’s Hospital and has governance over the practice of approx. 4000 nurses across hospital and community services. She has extensive experience in nursing spanning a career of 37 years. Her experience has been in Ireland, the UK and Australia. In this time she has obtained experience in senior nursing roles managing acute services such as Emergency Department and Intensive care. She has post-graduate qualifications in Infection Prevention Control, Midwifery, Occupational Health and Safety and Stroke Management. Marie was awarded the Nurse Leader and  Nurse of the Year for WA in 2009 at the WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards. She has a passion for Customer Service in Health Care  and promoting leadership roles in Nursing through a ‘Follow the Leader’ program where junior staff such as Newly qualified Nurses (NQN) can shadow the EDNS role

 

Annie Thompson - Executive Director of Nursing Services, North Metropolitan Health Services (NMHS)

Annie joined NMHS in March 2023 from St John of God Subiaco Hospital, where she most recently served as the Deputy Director Clinical Development and Operations (Redevelopment). Prior to this Annie spent more than 20 years in the health sector, so she brings a well-rounded vision of nursing and midwifery to NMHS. Annie is a passionate nurse who trained in the UK and has worked most of her professional life in Australia within public and private healthcare settings. Annie is focused on leading and empowering NMHS nurses and midwives to have a strong voice in shaping a culture of safety, quality patient care, compassion and kindness.
