About the course
This interactive course on the changes and challenges of the National Standards (2nd Edition) conducted over one day is equivalent to 7 continuing professional development (CPD) hours*. ( NB - This program does not address aged care standards)
Who should attend
This workshop is designed to support Nurse Unit Managers, Nurse Managers and Senior Nurses in Leadership roles at the Ward, Unit or Service level, to meet the national safety and quality standards and ensure continuous improvement of patient centred care.
Key learning outcomes
On completion, participants will be better able to:
1. Understand the changes to the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards the 2nd Edition
2. Understand the ward/unit/service level clinical governance roles and responsibilities in the NSQHS Standards 2nd Edition
3. Implement safety and quality systems, at the ward/unit/service level, consistent with the changes to the NSQHS Standards 2nd Edition.
4. Ensure effective partnerships with consumers are in place at both the individual and ward/unit/service level.

Presenter Biography
Mrs Helen Eccles RN, BHA, Grad Cert PH, Grad Dip Ed, MN, FACN, Ass FACHSM
Helen Eccles has over 40 years' experience in health care as a clinician, educator, manager, and director of clinical services. Her health leadership roles include Executive, Director of Nursing / Midwifery in public hospitals, Director of Learning and Development and Healthcare Consultant.
Helen’s passions include promoting patient safety and quality through clinical governance, partnering with consumers, evidence-based practice, innovative leadership, and management, creating an environment for professional growth and individualised development.
Helen is an experienced Lead Assessor for the National Safety & Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards with a wide variety of survey experience across a range of healthcare settings. She is also an Educator and Faculty Member of the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) Improvement Academy. Helen is involved in the development and provision of education programs for both assessors and the healthcare industry in general.
