Key learning outcomes
- Apply current knowledge of pain as a biopsychosocial experience to all aspects of the assessment, care and management of people with pain.
- Evaluate, select and use valid and reliable pain assessment tools that are appropriate to the needs of the individual patient and the demands of the care situation, and take into account such variables as language, cognitive ability, age, culture, disability, and other factors.
- Engage in regular evidence-based pain assessment and care planning that takes account of all aspects of the pain experience
- Describe the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characteristics of non-opioids, opioids and adjuvant analgesics
- Discuss the general principles of analgesic use including indications, contraindications, side effects and dose titrations
Presenter Biography
Robyn Quinn B Health Sc (Nursing), MBA, MRCNA, FAAPM
Robyn was General Manager of Sydney Pain Management Centre at Parramatta and Sydney Adventist Hospital, and has extensive experience working with management quality frameworks and education of pain within the Health Area and has held senior positions both in public and private healthcare organisations. She is a member of the International Association of Pain Taskforce on the Nursing curriculum for nursing pain education.
She is a Fellow of the Australian Association of Practice Managers.
She is a Member of the Australian College of Healthcare Executives and a Member of the Australian College of Nursing
