Let's Talk Leadership-An Evening With The Hon. Michael Kirby

Let's Talk Leadership-An Evening With The Hon. Michael Kirby
Let's Talk Leadership

The Australian College of Nursing Institute of Leadership was launched in August 2019 and announced a leadership series with high profile leaders. To celebrate International Men's Day, we are delighted to introduce The Hon. Michael Kirby AC CMG in this exciting series to highlight the importance of developing collaborative leaders and men in nursing. Tickets are available to all to further showcase nurses as leaders of key social, political and humanitarian issues.

Michael Kirby grew up in Concord, Sydney in a family that encouraged public engagement.  Two of his brothers were, like him, lawyers.  His sister Diana Kirby was a nurse.  She died in 2014 and he dedicates his remarks to her memory.

Michael Kirby served as a judge from 1975 to 2009.  He became President of the NSW Court of Appeal (1984-1996) and Justice of the High Court of Australia (1996-2009).

He also served on numerous UN bodies including the Global Commission of AIDS of WHO (1988-1992); the Global Commission on UNDP on HIV and the Law (2011-12); the UNSG’s High Level Panel on Access to Healthcare (2015-2016); and Chair of the Commission of Inquiry on North Korea (2013-2014).

He lives in Sydney with his partner of 51 years, Johan van Vloten.
