Facilitated by Dr Kalli Spencer (BEAT’s Health Advisory Team Leader) and ACN ACT State Chair Chrysta Bridge MACN, and presented by Urology Oncology Clinical Nurse Ally Morrice and Urological Surgeon Professor David Gillatt (BEAT’s Vice President & Patron), the talk will specifically consider a clinical perspective and the role of the nurse through this journey:
- Information gathering - identifying symptoms and risk factors that might suggest a diagnosis of bladder cancer,
- Discuss important diagnostic and treatment pathways,
- Practical tips for care of patients in the inpatient and outpatient settings,
- Introduce BEAT Bladder Cancer Australia as a resource for nurses to use, and to refer to their patients/families during their care of bladder cancer patients.
The webinar will provide case-scenarios backed up with current evidence-based practice guidelines using the highest levels of evidence where possible.

Presenter Bios:
Dr Kalli Spencer, BEAT’s Health Advisory Team Leader.
Dr Spencer is a urological surgeon with a special interest in oncology. He is a keen academic, completing a master’s degree in Urology, publishing research papers as well as teaching students, interns and medical officers. He is a qualified cancer support group leader. He has a particular interest in health advocacy, raising awareness of cancer in the community through numerous public talks, radio presentations & social media.
Ally Morrice, Urology Oncology Clinical Nurse
Ally Morrice is a Urology Oncology Clinical Nurse at the Mater Hospital Brisbane.Ally started her nursing career in 1993, gaining experience in medical cardiology and endocrinology, general surgery, and day procedure wards.Ally has always had a keen interest in Urology Oncology specifically Bladder Cancer. She has worked in Urology at Mater Hospital Brisbane for the past 10 years. Since 2018 Ally has held the position of Urology Oncology Clinical Nurse within the Urology Service. In this role she is responsible for the coordination of care for patients with Genitourinary Cancers (excluding prostate cancer).
Ally is a member for QUNS and a member of ANZUNS, ANZUP and CNSA.
Professor David Gillatt, BEAT’s Vice President & Patron
Professor Gillatt is a leading prostate and bladder cancer surgeon, with more than 25 years’ experience performing over 2000 resections worldwide. Recognised as one of the world’s foremost robotic surgeons, he currently holds the position of Director of Medical Services and Professor of Urological Oncology and Robotics at MQ Health/Macquarie University Hospital, Sydney. He brings leadership and valuable insights into medicine and is responsible for establishing the MQ Health Haematuria Clinic with the aim of fast-tracking patients to see the urologist when symptoms of bladder cancer arise.
He has also founded and chaired Action Bladder Cancer ABC UK and has an interest in cancer survivorship and patient support. His previous roles include Clinical Director of Urology at Southmead Hospital; and Medical Director of the Bristol Urological Institute, where he established the Prostate Cancer Care and Research Centre.
