Neuroscience and Motivational Interviewing for Nursing Leaders

This one-day workshop introduces nurse leaders to the science of motivation and behaviour change through the combined lenses of neuroscience and motivational interviewing.

Participants will learn practical communication strategies that strengthen trust, reduce resistance, and encourage ownership and accountability. Through interactive activities, discussion and practice-based learning, attendees will develop skills that can be applied immediately to conversations about performance, professional development, wellbeing and organisational change.

The workshop is facilitated by Jennifer Harland, an experienced healthcare leader with a Master of Science (Addiction) and graduate of the Science of Leadership Program at Harvard Medical School. Jennifer brings extensive expertise in behaviour change, leadership development, coaching and workforce engagement, translating evidence-based approaches into practical strategies for contemporary nursing leadership.

Key Learning Outcomes

Apply motivational interviewing techniques in leadership conversations

Presenter Bio
Jennifer Harland RN MSc MA CDAN FACN

Jennifer Harland is an accomplished Registered Nurse with extensive experience leading people, teams and organisational change across the health sector. She holds a Master of Science (Addiction) and has recently completed the Science of Leadership Program at Harvard Medical School, where she explored the latest evidence on leadership effectiveness, team performance, psychological safety and organisational culture.
Jennifer has a particular interest in the science of human behaviour, motivation and leadership. Her engaging and practical approach helps leaders translate complex evidence from neuroscience and behavioural science into everyday leadership conversations that build trust, motivation, accountability and lasting change. She is passionate about equipping nurse leaders with the skills needed to influence effectively, foster resilience and create high-performing healthcare teams.
