All Fellows, Members and non-members are invited to join the First Nations Community of Interest for their inaugural webinar. To be presented by Professor Odette Best MACN, Chair of the COI, and facilitated by Bruce Martin MACN, the COI's Deputy Chair. 

Dr Odette Best will present a fascinating look into the history of Australian Aboriginal nurses and midwives in the period 1900 - 1950. The presentation will draw on aspects of Prof Best's current research into the hidden history of Aboriginal Queensland nurses and midwives 1890s-1950. Following the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session.

Dr Odette Best through bloodline is Gorreng Gorreng and a Boonthamurra woman and through adoption she is Koomumberri, Yugambeh. Odette  is currently Professor of Nursing, Associate Head: Indigenous Research and Community Engagement, School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Southern Queensland. Odette is a hospital trained Registered Nurse of 29 years and further holds a Bachelor of Health Science, Master of Philosophy and  PhD. Odette is a Churchill Fellow (the first Aboriginal Australian Nurse to be awarded), A Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (the only Aboriginal Australian Nurse) and a Fellow of the Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses and Midwives. Odette is a passionate Aboriginal nurse and midwifery historian who currently is the Primary Investigator of an ARC funded project: Historiography of Aboriginal Queensland nurses and midwives 1890s-1950.
