Gertrude Berger Oration & Symposium Who Cares for the Nurses

The theme of this year’s Gertrude Berger Oration & Symposium held on the 14th of October 2021, is on Self Care for Nurses. It is a CPD event that focuses on the importance of self-care and wellbeing for nurses, particularly in the current climate where the COVID-19 pandemic has imposed additional stress and strain on healthcare workers. The three key learning objectives for participants: 1. Identify strategies that nurses can implement to maintain self-care in the prevention of compassion fatigue and burnout. 2. Discuss the impact that the nursing role can have on personal health and wellbeing, particularly with the challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. 3. Assist nurses in recognising when they or their colleagues need additional support or time off to prevent burnout. Join us in this webinar where our panelist speakers will cover topics like mindfulness and nutrition.

• Glenn Taylor MACN (Orator) Glenn Taylor is a registered nurse who commenced in the role of CEO with Nursing and Midwifery Health Program Victoria (NMHPV) in 2008. He has worked in the profession for over 30 years, mostly in the areas of mental health and alcohol and other drug use. Glenn has long held an interest in the health of his colleagues in the profession. He feels privileged to be in a position to directly support, assist and influence the health of those in Victoria’s workforce. Glenn continues to enjoy working with all stakeholders to address the challenges our colleagues continue to face. • Robyn Delbridge (Panelist) - Robyn is a dietitian who loves food and people. She’s an Advanced Accredited Practicing Dietitian, PhD Scholar and Lecturer for Swinburne’s Master of Dietetics. Robyn has a pragmatic approach to health and food, and dedicates much of interest in challenging the social, political and historical systems which impact workforces and perpetuate food and nutrition related health inequities. During Melbourne’s lockdowns, Robyn has been navigating working from home with her blended family and hasn’t managed to make any sourdough! • Professor Craig Hassed OAM (Panelist) - Professor Craig Hassed has been working within the Faculty of Medicine at Monash University since late 1980’s. He is the coordinator of mindfulness programs across Monash. His teaching, research and clinical interests include mindfulness, mind-body medicine, lifestyle medicine, integrative medicine and medical ethics. Craig developed and integrated into the Monash medical curriculum the world-first mindfulness-based healthy lifestyle course called the Health Enhancement Program. • Dr Aletha Ward MACN (Panelist) - Aletha is a Registered Nurse with a PhD in social health policy. A researcher and lecturer within the University sector, she focuses on the impact of how where we live and work influences our health, and how we can use small shifts within our environment to 'nudge' our health outcomes. Aletha is driven to work with communities to empower, educate and support them to build their capacity and resilience.
