The consequences of poor malnutrition are significant and often irreversible for the elderly. The Dietitians Association of Australia calls this the silent epidemic in the elderly, citing that more than 50% of older Australians in aged care and in the community are either at risk of malnutrition or are malnourished. This module will help you identify factors that contribute to malnutrition in the elderly and recognise the consequences of malnutrition in the elderly. You will also learn how to apply and interpret appropriate malnutrition screening tools during an assessment of the elderly?and employ strategies to prevent and/or manage malnutrition in the elderly.
