Join the History Faculty for an insightful and reflective session exploring one of the most confronting aspects of medical history during World War Two. During this period, the Nazi regime of the Third Reich carried out a huge range of highly unethical pseudo-medical experiments on prisoners in their concentration camps. Ravensbrück Concentration Camp, north of Berlin, was the centre for experiments about wound treatments and included egregious procedures such as creating wounds, filling them with dirt, and watching infection develop. These procedures took place in the camp hospital, where nurses employed there helped carry them out on prisoners. Many were executed, some died from the effects of the procedures, and others who survived were maimed for life.
