An overview of the principles of safe anaesthesia, including the anaesthetic triad and the mechanisms of general anaesthesia, as well as the phases of care across induction, maintenance, and emergence. The course also examines the classification and use of anaesthetic agents, the principles of local, regional, and neuraxial anaesthesia, and the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of local anaesthetics. A key focus is the role of the anaesthetic nurse in monitoring, administering care, recognising complications, and responding effectively to ensure safe and high-quality patient outcomes.
