2023 NSQHS Standards - Updates & Challenges Adelaide

Who should attend?      

This workshop is designed to support Nurse Unit Managers and Nurse Managers in leadership roles at Ward, Unit or Service level or in Safety & Quality roles to meet national safety and quality standards and ensure continuous improvement in patient-centred care.  

Note: This workshop is relevant to Hospitals and Day Procedure Centres only. This workshop does not address the standards for Aged Care or General Practice. 

 

Key learning outcomes

At the completion of the program participants will have developed skills and knowledge to enable them to:

  • Understand the recent changes to the Australian Health Services Safety & Quality Accreditation Scheme, and the National Safety & Quality Health Service (NSQHS)
  • Standards the 2nd Edition version 2 (2021)
  • Understand the Clinical Governance roles and responsibilities in the NSQHS Standards 2nd Edition as they apply at the Ward/Unit/Service level.  
  • Integrate safety and quality systems into normal business, consistent with the changes to the NSQHS Standards 2nd Edition. 
  • Ensure effective partnerships with consumers are in place at both the individual and service level.  
  • Use the information gained from normal business as evidence in the Accreditation process.
     
 

 

Biography - Mrs Helen Eccles, RN, BHA, Grad Cert PH, Grad Dip Ed, MN, FACN, Ass FACHSM

 

Helen Eccles has over 40 years' experience in health care as a clinician, educator, manager, and director of clinical services.  Her health leadership roles include Executive, Director of Nursing / Midwifery in public hospitals, Director of Learning and Development and Healthcare Consultant.

Helen’s passions include promoting patient safety and quality through clinical governance, partnering with consumers, evidence-based practice, innovative leadership and management, creating an environment for professional growth and individualised development.

Helen is an experienced Lead Assessor for the National Safety & Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards with a wide variety of survey experience across a range of healthcare settings. She is also an Educator and Faculty Member of the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) Improvement Academy.  Helen is involved in the development and provision of educational programs for both assessors and the healthcare industry in general.
