“Growing our Own”: Exploring the Educational Mobility of Rural, Regional and Remote Nurses
In the context of a critical rural nursing workforce shortage, “Grow our Own” strategies that support rural nurses to complete further education are an important strategy for the recruitment and retention of rural nurses. The aim of Louise’s research is to identify the contextual factors that intersect to shape rural, regional and remote nurses’ experiences of accessing and completing further education.

Louise Wells MACN is an academic and PhD candidate at Charles Sturt University. Her research project is titled: “Growing our Own”: A Qualitative Study of Factors that Shape Educational Mobility for Rural, Regional and Remote Nurses. In the context of a critical rural nursing workforce shortage, “Grow our Own” strategies that support rural nurses to complete further education are an important strategy for the recruitment and retention of rural nurses. The aim of Louise’s research is to identify the contextual factors that intersect to shape rural, regional and remote nurses’ experiences of accessing and completing further education. During the presentation, Louise will provide an overview of her research, with a focus on the findings from the scoping review.

Louise is the Course Director for Undergraduate Nursing and a PhD candidate exploring factors that shape educational mobility for rural, regional and remote nurses. Drawing on her experiences as an academic at a regional university and rural nurse, her work centres on nursing education and understanding how educational opportunities influence the recruitment, retention and development of the rural nursing workforce.
