Why study this course

Health care providers are at the forefront in protecting the community’s health and wellbeing. Immunisation as a national public health strategy continues to be a cost-effective means in reducing the mortality and morbidity rates related to vaccine-preventable diseases. It is recognised that having appropriately trained health professionals is crucial in ensuring successful delivery of immunisation services to improve immunisation coverage rates nationally.

This course aims to equip health practitioners with the essential attributes to be immunisation advocates and promote immunisation uptake. Health practitioners who have successfully passed this course should refer to the Country’s legislation for information and conditions leading to the authorisation to immunise independent of a medical officer.

Collaborative partnership

The Pacific Community (SPC) is the principal scientific and technical regional organisation in the Pacific region, owned and governed by its 27 member countries and territories. Strengthening delivery of Nursing services and workforce capacity is a key element of SPC’s Public Health Division through its Business Plan 2022-2025.

The Australian College of Nursing (ACN), through a collaborative partnership with SPC has contextualised this course to meet the demands and needs of the Pacific nurses and healthcare workers in the region. The World Health Organisation (WHO) Pacific Technical Support (Fiji) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Pacific provided feedback to this contextualisation. This collaboration has been made possible with funding support from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
